Spanish Wool
100% Transhumance Merino
Our Spanish wool comes from small-scale farmers whose flocks still follow the ‘cañadas reales’ - the ancient drove roads that cross more than 125,000 kilometres of the Spanish territory. Twice a year, their Merino sheep migrate between the dehesas of Extremadura and the cooler highland pastures of the north, a practice known as transhumance and recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The Spanish Merino is the origin of nearly every Merino breed in the world. For five centuries, Spain banned its export (at one point under penalty of death) making it one of history's most protected agricultural assets. The flocks that still follow the transhumance routes today descend directly from that original breed, largely unchanged.
The wool is collected from these flocks, then washed and spun in Castilla-La Mancha by a small, family-run producer whose entire practice is built around Spanish wool; its sourcing, its relationship with the farmers who produce it, and its potential as a material. Their work is rooted in a commitment to keeping both the tradition and the rural communities around it alive.
The yarn is 100% transhumance Merino wool: dense and soft, with a natural depth that comes through in the knit. It holds structure without stiffness and wears with character over time.
